Bhakti
Bhakti is a path of belief in which a person chooses a deity he or she has faith in. The devotion of his or
her chosen deity is termed as Bhakti. It considered that if a devotee worships the chosen deity with a
pure heart, the deity will appear in the form in which he or she may desire. Anyone irrespective of his or
her caste could follow the path of Bhakti. An important feature of later Hinduism was the worship of
Shiva, Vishnu and the goddess Durga through Bhakti or devotion. The idea of Bhakti is found in the
Bhagvad Gita, a sacred book of the Hindus. Bhakti emphasised devotion and individual worship of a
chosen deity. It did not believe in caste, class or gender differences. The ideas of the Bhakti movement
later became the central feature of Hinduism.
