12 National Festivals
National Festivals and I
We are Indians first and foremost; all other identities of religion, region or caste
come later. So, we all Indians celebrate national festivals together with fanfare.
Independence Day
India became free on 15 August,
1947 , so we celebrate Independence
Day on 15 August each year. The
main function is held at the Red
Fort in Delhi. The Prime Minister
hoists the National Flag and gives
the speech. It is also celebrated all
over the country. All people gather
and hoist the National Flag. People
also hoist the National Flag on their
houses. They sing patriotic songs,
greet one another and distribute
sweets.
Republic Day
Our country became a republic on 26 January, 1950 . This means
that the Constitution of India came into force on this day. So, it is
