                                                            Baul Music
                 One of the best known and much appreciated forms of folk music in Bengal was baul singing. It
                 originated in the Nadia district of Bengal dating back to the 15th century. Singers of such songs were
                 called bauls and the songs were known as baul gaan. Bauls were wandering minstrels who sang songs
                 to spread the message of God. Baul devotional music went beyond religion and some of the most
                 famous baul composers such as Lalon Fakir were Muslims.
