“It is mine because I have shot it,” cried Devdutt.

“I have saved it, so it is mine,” said Siddhartha coolly.

The two young boys argued and then went to the king. The king

heard them both and then said, “This swan is Siddhartha’s. A
person who saves has a greater right than the one who kills.”

This Siddhartha grew up to be a great man. We know him as the

Buddha. He taught people the lesson of love, kindness, honesty
            and nonviolence.

                A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October, 1931. He belonged to a
poor family in Kerala. He did his B.Tech. After this, he wanted to

be a pilot with the Indian Air Force, but he was not selected. He

then joined the DRDO (Defence Research and Development

Organisation) and worked as a scientist. He developed several
satellites and missiles. Due to this, we call him the Missile Man of

India . In 1992, it was under his supervision that India tested the

            nuclear bomb.

The satellites, missiles and nuclear capability made India a

powerful country in the world. He has also worked to develop a

low-cost stent; it is used in the hearts of those people who are
seriously ill. It has helped save many

            lives.

Owing to his popularity, A.P.J. Abdul

Kalam became the President of India in
2002. He worked on this post until 2007.

He was the most popular President

            among children.

He loved to teach children. After 2007,

                                                                                       Great People 75
