              Distance and I

Play a game with your friend. In your park, mark two points a little away from

each other. Now, ask your friend to walk from one point to the other and count
the steps. After this, you too walk this distance and count the steps. This is the

distance between two points in steps.

Are the numbers of steps for both of you equal? Yes/No

This is the reason that we use fixed measurements to measure distance.

                Distance

Distance shows how far one place is from another. We need to

measure small and long distances. The distance between two points
in your notebook is very small, the distance between your house to

the bus stop is not very long, but the distance between your city

            and Mumbai is very long.

u We measure very small distances in centimetres and inches .

u We measure some distances in feet and metres .

u We measure long distances in kilometres .

             Know It!

v Centimetre, inch, foot, metre and kilometre are universal (fixed) measurements
                to measure distance.
